Online Audio

Course-related materials distributed by the Global Studio are available only to those on the University of Richmond network.  If you are off-campus, you must use the university's VPN connection. This is true even when the materials are accessible through Blackboard.

Many of the publishers' websites provide multimedia materials without restrictions. On-line workbooks, however, generally require that you purchase an access key. If you have been told to use a publisher's site or on-line workbook and are having trouble gaining access, please talk with your professor.

If you can't find files that are said to be accessible through Blackboard, please contact us.

Interested in online audio not related to a specific course or text?  The Studio offers weekly SCOLA Insta-Class lessons. In addition, we can help you locate many other interesting resources. Watch for workshop announcements, consult the Virtual Global Studio wiki,  or contact us for more information.

Online Audio Help

Most of the audio materials distributed by the Studio are available through Blackboard as MP3 files. You can listen to these materials at any time from any computer on the University of Richmond network that has an MP3 player. On a Windows computer, Windows Media Player is the default; the default player on a Mac is usually iTunes or QuickTime.

I can't find the files I need.
The materials distributed by the Studio are protected by copyright. Those that are distributed through the Virtual Studio are usually restricted to students enrolled in specific courses and programs.  For this reason, many of the textbook-related materials are available through course areas in Blackboard.  In some cases, the Studio does not have permission to distribute audio files over the network. You must come to the physical Studio on the second floor of the Carole Weinstein International Center to use these materials.

Materials for specific language courses are listed on this page.  If you can't find what you need, please contact us

I get an error when I click the link for my textbook.
Because of copyright restrictions, the Studio must limit access to computers on the University of Richmond network.

Students who need to access these materials from a non-University network must use the University of Richmond's VPN. Contact the Help Desk (x6400) or consult the instructions.

If you are on the University network, please let us know about your problem; it's possible that the link is broken. For immediate help, call the Studio at 804-287-6598.

I'm looking for more audio and video in my language.
The Virtual Global Studio is beginning to collect supplemental materials available on line and via podcasts. Note, however, that there are many other resources available. For help, contact us. Remember, too, that the World Television system offers programming in a number of languages.

Software to practice Arabic, Chinese, Dutch, Farsi, Hebrew, Japanese, Portuguese and Russian at levels from beginning to advanced can be used in the physical Studio on the second floor of CWIC. This software has exercises that feature voice recognition for speaking practice. Practice software for French pronunciation is also available.

I'm interested in languages not taught at the University.
The physical Studio has materials in Dutch, Farsi, Hebrew, Swahili, and Turkish. Contact us for help finding additional resources in any language.
